I expected our chickens' egg production to slow down with winter but they proved me wrong. We've had lots of "bonus days" lately (the Armstrong term for four eggs from our four hens in one day). I've had lots of people ask me about the chickens lately, wondering if I have grown tired of their presence. I actually couldn't be happier with our hen operation. They require very little care and give us delicious eggs in return for our kitchen scraps that would otherwise go to the compost bin. In addition to devouring our scraps they provide excellent fertilizer for the garden.
